How do I get to Sovenia?
Well, the easiest way would be to fly in to local airport. It’s located about half an hour away from Ljubljana, and has good bus connections to the city. Unfortunately not many cheap airlines fly there; there’s EasyJet from London, and WizzAir from London and Brussel.
Slovenian airline Adria Airways offers direct flights, for a bit higher prices. However, they often have special offers which could be as cheap as 90 euros return tickets. Definitely worth checking out.
You can also fly to a nearby foreign airport. Venice (2,5 h car drive), Trieste (1,5 h car drive), Klagenfurt (1,5 h car drive) and Zagreb (1,5 h car drive) are all fairly close to Ljubljana. EasyJet, WizzAir, Czech Airlines and RyanAir fly to those airports. From there you can take a bus* or train to Ljubljana.
How do I get to/from Bohinj?
For starters, you can try being in Ljubljana by Friday. Then we can all go together ![]()
But if for some reason you can’t make it, here are several options:
BUS to BOHINJ JEZERO* – leaves Ljubljana main station pretty much every hour, takes about two hours to get there. It’ll drop you off at the lake. Recommended
UPDATE: most buses are supposed to stop right in front of the hostel, too, as they continue to drive around the lake. The bus stop is called ”POD VOGLOM” and you need to tell the driver you want to get off there.
TRAIN to BOHINJSKA BISTRICA – if you prefer trains. You would have to change trains, and then take a short bus trip to the lake itself. Here are the timetables: 1, 2.
However if you want to go straight from the airport, try taking airport transfer to Kranj, and from there the bus to Bohinj Jezero. It’ll be faster, as the airport is on the way from Ljubljana to Bohinj.
